Financial Aid

Most fully employed students are eligible for federal student loans. Please visit the UCLA Financial Aid website for detailed information on how to submit your FREE Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Applications are due March 2. If you miss the deadline, you can still submit an application.

Upon acceptance into the program, financial aid notices will be available to HP students mid July and will continue throughout the academic year. It is very important to complete the FAFSA application as soon as possible.

Financial Aid Process

  1. Once admitted to the program, please complete the FAFSA application at www.studentaid.gov if interested in loans; there is no gift aid via the FAFSA.

  2. Financial Aid and Scholarships will inform students via my.ucla if any additional documentation is required to receive aid; the student will need to submit the necessary documentation to receive a Financial Aid Notification (FAN).

  3. Financial Aid Notifications (FAN) are released in July with loan offers for the academic year.

  • FAN- We will award Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan and Federal Graduate PLUS Loan; the amount will be equally divided over the three terms.

  • FAN- After the student accepts the loans, the FAN will inform the student to complete the loan requirements IF they are a new loan borrower at UCLA.

    • Master Promissory Note for each loan accepted. (Unsubsidized Loan and Graduate PLUS Loan)

    • Loan Entrance Counseling Session for each loan accepted. (Unsubsidized Loan and Graduate PLUS Loan) *This is the #1 reason for delays. Graduate students only need to complete this once.

4. Financial aid will disburse 10 days prior to the start date of classes.

5. Please sign up for Bruin Direct to receive excess loans per term.

Things to keep in mind:

  • Loan Origination fee is taken from the top of the loan. The Unsubsidized is 1.057% and Graduate PLUS is 4.228%, so the amount disbursed will be slightly lower.

    • Example:  $20,500 /3 terms= $6833 per term less origination of 1.057% ($72)= disbursement of $6761 per term. The Graduate PLUS Loan has a 4.228% origination fee.

  • FAFSA data is downloaded based on social security number and UCLA School code (001315) Students can add their SSN to the UCLA system via My.ucla under personal settings.

  • FAFSA application must be submitted per academic year

  • Private Student loans are offered upon request
